Types of Scanning Features Available on Xerox Multifunction Printers
On your Xerox machine, you may have noticed a few scanning features labeled with different names. For example, the features may be called “Scan to File,” “Scan to Home,” and “Scan to Email,” etc. But what do these names mean?
All of these represent how your machine can scan a black and white or color document into an electronic version. Scanning is a great way to reduce the clutter on your desk and securely store files on your computer
Scan Destinations:
According to scan destination, the scanning features are:
- Email – scans the file and sends them to a specific email address using Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP).
- PC – scans a file and sends it directly to a PC connected to the network.
- File – scans a file and saves it to a specified location on your computer.
- Home – sends scanned files directly to your home folder. The home folder is defined in the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directory.
- USB – sends scanned files directly to a USB storage device. Most scanners you buy will have this functionality.
- Network – directly sends the scanned documents to a file repository through templates. Templates are files that store preferences for routing files to an SMB or FTP server.
Scan Software:
- Xerox Scan Drivers – these are drivers that let you scan documents on your MFP. Xerox Scan Drivers are more or less specific to the product and can be downloaded from the product page. They also come pre-installed when you lease a new MFP.
- TWAIN Driver – a special kind of driver that is TWAIN-compliant. TWAIN is a standard that defines how devices like MFPs connect with software for image processing. The TWAIN driver is what gives TWAIN-compliant apps access to the Document Scanner.
- Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) driver is provided on the MS Windows XP OS SP1 and later operating systems. The WIA driver lets you scan and modify images and documents without requiring any third-party software.
