Copiers and Office Air Quality
There could be a danger lurking in your office that your aren’t even aware of. Many people do not know this, but your office copier could be affecting the air quality of your work environment. It is usually not a big issue, but it’s always important to know how to handle copiers and office air quality to ensure that you are providing a safe and comfortable work environment.
Many copiers produce something called Volatile Organic Compounds. These compounds, otherwise known as VOCs can be harmful to those who are especially sensitive to lung and respiratory problems. The most common VOC produced is Ozone, which is good for the envionrment, but can hurt your lungs.
Making your office air quality safe with a copier around is as easy as following these simple steps.
- Move your copier to a ventilated area. This will allow the ozone to ventilate out of the office and give your lungs
- Move the copier away from people’s desks. While some people may not care, those who are affected will notice a difference immediately. You don’t want to have one person breathing in that Ozone day after day.
- Change your filters often. Keep up to date on your filters and make sure you are making changed when you need to.
If you follow these rules then you should have no issues with your office air quality. But if you don’t listen to this then people in your office may begin to have respiratory or cardiovascular issues. Do the right thing and make sure your office is safe for a copier.
