Ending your Copier Lease
Too many people only pay attention to the beginning and middles of their leases. This leaves them far too vulnerable to lose money on the back end of their leases. Many copier leasing companies know this, and are able to sneak nasty rules into the end of your lease. Knowing what to do when you are ending your copier lease can be critical to saving you a lot of money. Learning what to look for early on can make your life much easier down the road.
The first thing that you want to look for is if your lease has automatic rollover. If you have this provision then they will be allowed to continue your lease unless you specifically request to end it. Check to find out when you must notify your leasing company and make a note of it. Don’t miss that date or you could be stuck with the same copier for ever longer.
Next, find out who is repsonsible for shipping the copier. Many people think that their leasing company is going to send someone to grab the copier from your office. That is rarely the case. It is very normal for the person who leased the copier to be in charge of shipping it back. This can be very expensive if you don’t setup pickup early on. Make sure that you plan this early on to save money if it is up to you to ship the copier.
Finally, know how to package all your copier parts. Things like toner have to be stored in plastic bags or you could be charged. Make sure you understand your roll in ending your copier lease in order to save yourself from spending more than you should.
